Case Study: Medify App and Responsive Website, a design for Social Good
Project Overview
The product: Medify is a comprehensive medication management app designed to simplify the lives of individuals managing complex medication schedules. Targeted primarily at individuals of all ages, Medify offers a user-friendly interface that accommodates varying levels of technology proficiency.

Project Duration: August 2023 - September 2023

The problem:
The problem Medify addresses is the prevalent issue of medication non-adherence, which poses significant health risks to users worldwide. There is a social need for an inclusive, easy-to-use tool that bridges generational gaps in medication management.

The goal:

The project’s goal was to create a medication reminder solution that simplifies medication management by focusing on user-centricity and inclusivity, which contributes to the overall well-being of individuals.

My role:

Lead UX designer and researcher

Responsibilities:

  • User research

  • Personas and user journeys

  • Competitive audit & report

  • Paper and digital wireframes

  • Lo-fi and hi-fi mockups and prototypes

User Research: Summary
Initially, I entered the research phase with the assumption that users primarily needed reminders for medication intake and minimal customization for simplicity. However, assumptions shifted as I engaged with a diverse group of potential users.
Through interviews and usability testing, I discovered that users desired a more robust solution with advanced customization options, intuitive scheduling features, and a user-friendly interface.
After creating personas and user journeys, I found that some users were in need of a dedicated mobile app, while some needed a responsive website that can work smoothly across devices.
Ideation
I used the Crazy Eights method to quickly ideate features and page layouts for the app.

Next, creating paper wireframes allowed me to iterate thorugh variations of the app's homepage.

I choose layout elements and features from five variations that led to the creation of Home V.1.

Digital Wireframes & Low-Fidelity Prototype
After ideating and drafting paper wireframes, I created digital wireframes to display a more concrete idea of the app.

These low-fidelity wireframes focused on the navigation paths a user would take.

Testing the Lo-Fi Prototype: Usability Study
I conducted a moderated usability study with 5 participants varying in age and ability.

The following were the main concerns uncovered by the study:

Navigation

Users had trouble editing reminders and intuitively finding pages. In addition, users expected the homepage calendar to be interactive.

Features

Users desired more options for customizing medication reminders, as well as a medication history page.

Terminology

Some users were confused on the adherence tracking and share schedule pages without having an explanation of their function.

Refining the Design: Mockups & High-Fidelity Prototype
Based on insights gathered from the usability study, changes were made in mockups to reflect user needs.
Below are the mockups for the main user flow.

Responsive Designs

The final step of the design process was to create variations of the app for mobile, tablet, and desktop websites.

I optimized designs for larger screen sizes to include necessary information while maintaining a similar feel across devices.

Impact:

During usability studies, all participants expressed a desire for the Medify app to come to market. Although enhancements are required in terms of UX and back-end development to make the product real, Medify has the potential to deliver a positive societal impact by aiding a diverse range of individuals spanning across all age groups.

Next Steps:
Create all mockups for the responsive website and mobile app.
Conduct a second usability study testing the hi-fi prototypes of the mobile app and responsive website.
Add any additional pages that aren't part of the main user flow, such as pages for specific settings.
